Dependent Origination

The Social Network

Posted on: October 30, 2010

very well made movie。

看了之后最大的感想是is this my profession?

另外的一部分,关于jewish guys and asian girls, 也是相当的脸谱化. asian girls贪婪,追逐名利,without shame, bitchy,看了会觉得如果我有个女儿, do i want her to grow up in a society with such stereotype for her?

当然大多数人看见的都是一个good idea加上determination就可以change the world, make it big
but i can see why this can be a question, just like zuckerberg

还有一个极端就是在父母的鼓励之下全面抛弃asian culture, be like the white people,看起来也很可怜。

I also find what you said about ABCs being more confused than us very interesting. My cousin’s daughter (who grew up here and is now 18) is not a typical ABC by any means, that skewed my feelings about ABC kids somewhat, but I can see what you said probably has alot of truth in many ABCs…

it is only stories from my friends or my observations for them. Not that dramatic🙂 will sure write about them as topic arises🙂

i think it has some bad effects on zuckerberg. the movie’s portrait of him is not exactly what he really is. the movies puts him at a typical nerd with no ability to communicate with other people but it is probably not true. he would go down history or popular mind as a nerd and bad*** who cannot connect, with no empathy and friends. there is certain degree of truth in that statement but there are also so much more to the person of zuckerberg that the movie selectively passes on for the sake of drama.

anyway, he is really only 26 right now and he has a lot room to grow and evolve as a real person and am sure he is going to show more of him as time goes by (and as his wealth grows and becomes a voice to listen to, just as bill g).

parents definitely play an important role in the child’s value system. that is also the reason why race is such a hard problem to tackle. the asian families pass values to their children and the while or hispanic families pass their own. All of them can have bits that warn against strangers.

even if some parents are more open minded, that does not mean all parents are like that. so social changes are gradual and slow. I used to joke that the sequence of US presidents are probably white men -> black men -> white women -> asian men. So a white woman has to become a president first before an asian man can be elected. It is all my speculation (and joke) though🙂
